Linux makes my head go round 0

My interactions with Linux have been far from productive. I have tried over 5-6 distros and I have tried them over and over again, but it just hasn’t worked out for me. No, I am not complaining about me not understand how to use linux or otherwise. On the contrary, I am as comfortable using [...]

Planning a move to Linux Mint Fluxbox 0

This post will be much to the amusement of a certain grk3. This is not the first time that I am changing my linux distro. In fact after umpteen number of changes, I had decided to stick to the set up that I currently have. I have a multi boot of OpenSolaris and Ubuntu along [...]

Booting into Linux after a long time 1

It was after a very long time that I was booting into my Linux installation. From a very long time, I was either not using my PC enough, or the basic Windows installation that I had, served the purpose that I wanted such as occasional checking of emails. So I hadn’t taken the effort to [...]

Funny and awesome linux ‘tux’ icons 0

Tux Lisa

Tux Lisa

I stumbled upon this site with some really great and well done tux icons. Tux is the official mascot of linux and these icons are tux in its various avatars. Reminds me of Durga pooja pandals and Ganesh idols and the various representations of the gods during the festivals.

Firefox 3.0.6 very stable on Fedora 10 0

After this incident I got extremely irritated with Firefox and I never really used it that much. Opera was ulti stable and though there were minor usability issues when compared to FF, I managed to work around those problems and use it.

Startup times better, but not enough 2

Boot times on Fedora 10 does seem to have improved after the updates and the new Kernel, but still it doesnt quite cut it for me. It really needs to be much much faster than 10 odd minutes.

I will set up OpenSuSE for download today and hopefully it will be done in 1-2 days time. Maybe then I will take a call on whether to move to that or not

Pathetic boot times on Fedora 10 0

Fedora 10 start up screen bad

Let me put this straight and very simply. Fedora 10 has in-sane-ly pathetic boot up times. Yes, thats my word on this and thats final. Fedora 9 got me to fall in love with this OS. No dont get me wrong. Fedora 10 is just as good as Fedora 9 from all perspectives, so long as you’ve got the damn thing to boot up and you’ve logged into the system.

Firefox on Linux keeps closing or crashing 0

I’ve always been a fan of Firefox and that is easily my most preferred browser on Windows. I might have even forgotten how IE looks like except for the fact that that is the most supported browser in my office.

Roller Coaster Linux 1

Boy o boy… my journey with linux has been a total roller coaster of a ride. I have installed, overwritten, crashed and re-installed 5 different distros around 15-20 times over the last 2 months. I seriously believe that linux is not compatible with my PC configuration at all. I have an AMD Athlon XP(K7) on a SiS chipset based ECS mobo with a Creative EMU101k sound card and GeForce 6200 card and I am sure the linux kernels dont even have a clue what these hardware can do together.

Information Dilution 0

…taking off from http://blogs.prashu.com/arbit/content/2008/10/00206/information-dilution.php

This was my theory on why the internet is not newbie-friendly anymore.

The worst part is related to linux. When I want to search how to install, say, the lastest nvidia driver.

I google for ‘nvidia driver install linux’. And I get loads and loads of crap. Next I search for ‘nvidia driver install linux fedora 9′. I get results for all versions of fedora and all version of nvidia and somewhere there is a 9 in the results.
