Thoughts simmering in my mind, just waiting to get out

I have noticed something of late with respect to your kids. I don’t know how this happens elsewhere in the world, but in India what I’ve noticed is that in order to try and focus the attention of kids to something, the parents take away all the other so-called distractions from the kid. For example, [...]

There are somethings that I don’t get about certain people. Some people think it is cool or fashionable to go on to others blogs and start using expletives. I don’t understand what kind of upbringing they have had, but I find it quite unacceptable and bad netiquette to abuse and start using bad words on [...]

It was about 11am and I didn’t have any internet connectivity for the past 60 minutes. I had with me 4 different mobile number of Airtel technical staff who had over the past weeks fixed at least 5 complaint requests that I have had to raise thanks to the awesome service of Airtel. None were [...]

I have been using internet service since a very very long time and have seen a lot changes and a lot of ISPs. From when VSNL used to operate, to when Caltiger provided free internet services, private operators such as Dishnet and Tata, to BSNL providing postpaid on demand dial up use. Then there was [...]

Are you among those who, when you were doing something and realized that someone else was doing it better than you, or realized that you needed some help to do better whatever it was that you were doing, got access to the internet, either on the phone, or through a nearby terminal, and googled on [...]

I happened to find this article on Problogger a couple of weeks back and I had registered for the program. However, something slipped in my mind and I totally forgot that I had registered for this. Incidentally, the first communication(hopefully) from them ended up in my spam and I wasnt reminded of this program. Yesterday was day 1 of the start of this program and thankfully the mail found its way into my inbox. I would be starting off with this challenge and I hope to implement the steps and have a better blog in 31 days.

This was my theory on why the internet is not newbie-friendly anymore.

The worst part is related to linux. When I want to search how to install, say, the lastest nvidia driver.

I google for ‘nvidia driver install linux’. And I get loads and loads of crap. Next I search for ‘nvidia driver install linux fedora 9′. I get results for all versions of fedora and all version of nvidia and somewhere there is a 9 in the results.

The worst thing that can happen to someone is when you have a problem and you look online to help solve that problem. Take for instance the problems that I am having with linux. Many things are not working, or I want to install some stuff and I am stuck somewhere and I need some help to bail me out of that situation.

Got BSNL Dataone configured on openSUSE. Hardly any hassle, its just a matter of looking at the right place. I googled up a little while I was on windows and came to try it here. First thing that happened was that the stoopid NIC card didn’t show up on the hardware list. I thought this was sorted out in openSUSE, but supposedly not. Read here about the problem.

A biggest handicap that one can have working on linux is when one doesn’t have internet access on it. What makes this irritating, is that you have to go online to find out how to get the internet configured and working and still… you just cant do that.

You have to dual-boot into your other OS, or boot into an other internet-enabled PC and then figure out how to get the damn thing working. Dual-boot is especially irritating as if what you think should work, doesnt work, then you have to dual-boot back to find out more options of making the internet work on Linux.
