If you wanna Blog, Keep a Notepad Handy

I think I have missed out on about 70% or more of posts that have come to mind. When I am doing something, I suddenly get some interesting thoughts and I know that I want to blog about it. These days with the advent of technology, I think we have just lost the capability to remember much. Previously, I used to remember so many telephone numbers of friend, but when mobiles came into use, everything is just stored on the phone’s contacts.

Anyway, I am quite serious about blogging and I like to blog. When I think of some topic to blog, I ponder over it for a good many minutes and I would have a lot of points to blog about that topic. However in the next 1-2 hours when I get in front of a PC, or when I next have some free time to blog, I forget what I wanted to blog about. Sometime, when I do remember the topic, or when I recall the topic after some time, I would have forgotten all those points that I wanted to write about on that topic. So without having much content to write about, either I feel disheartened to write the blog, or I feel that without much content, it is not worth blogging about that topic and it slowly slips away from my mind.

The result is that I end up not blogging about a lot of topics that I would have enjoyed blogging about and should have blogged about.

So, for those who are really interested in blogging, you should carry on you at all times, something using which you can note down your thoughts whenever you get one. Carry a small scribbling pad and a pencil/pen in your bag or pocket or if you are those tech savvy ones, then you can carry a device that will let you take down notes – such as a digital organizer. Also these days most mobiles have text entry software such as notepad, notes, etc., where you can jot down your thoughts. if you don’t have such a phone, then you can just create a new SMS and save it as a draft, or just SMS it to yourself. :)

In fact it is not that difficult to carry something to take down notes in. The most difficult part is to actually get into the habit of noting down your thoughts when you get them. Initially you will feel very lazy to do it and you will also procrastinate thinking you will note down after 5-10 minutes, maybe when no one else is around. But do get into the habit. If you are feeling shy to note it down when other people are around and they would ask you what you are writing about, point them to your blog and tell them to read about it there. That way you will also increase the readership of your blogs.

  1. Well…for me, too, it happens…but I’d say, the thoughts that slip away, may not be worth recording after all…the things that continue to stick in my mind are the ones I blog about…and what’s surprising is, how, sometimes, the points or the perspectives change!

  2. Somehow, I don’t agree that thoughts that slip away may not be worth recording. Maybe not all thoughts are meant to be recorded, but then out of those 100 random thoughts that come into the mind every day, at least 2-3 will be some interesting ones that you can work on and could record. On many occasions, I would read something a few days later and then realize that this is what I was thinking about the other day. Also yes, the perspectives could change later, but then I am always demotivated that what I had thought earlier are lost. If I had recorded those points then maybe I could work on it and add some more points when I am actually writing it down.

Anyway, I guess it depends on the individual and his/her brain power. Maybe in your case, you do tend to remember things worth blogging until when you actually blog them. :) Unfortunately there are too many things running in my mind always and things don’t stick in there for more than a few minutes :(
