The IPL which is the Indian Premier League will not be held in India this year. This is so crazy. So the Indian Premier League will now be the International Premier League. Already the number of Foreign players in each team are above 50%. The only ‘India’ factor in the IPL was that the league was being held in India. But now this is no more the case.
Due to the fall out between the BCCI which controls cricket in India and the Indian government, it has been decided that the IPL will now be held out of India. Apparently due to the various terrorist threats and incidents within India and the its surrounding countries the BCCI demanded that the Indian government provide higher security to the players of each IPL team and especially the foreign players who are visiting India.
It happens that the dates that were fixed for the IPL coincides with what is definitely the most important phase of India that happens once every 5 years. This is the Lok Sabha elections. As the tenure of the previous govt. ends, a new govt. will be elected by the people, for the people and of the people. No matter what opinions people have of the candidates campaigning and the dirty politics that is happening all around, it is no doubt a very important phase for all the citizens of India.
But what has happened is such a shame for India. It is not a shame that the Indian govt. refused to provide security to the players during the IPL. The govt has to ensure that the polls are held peacefully all over India. The people of India are more important than the few cricketers that will be playing for money more than for glory and for the game. It is in fact the greatest shame by far is the fact that he BCCI in all its power hunger have forgotten the importance the the elections are to India. They have turned this into a political issue by blaming parties that have declared that they will not be able to provide security.
During the national elections, it is the imperative duty of each and every citizen of India to vote to elect the party that will govern over India for the next 5 years. But the BCCI has firstly not cared for the constitution of India, but have in fact shamed the country by showing disrespect to the constitution by moving out of India bang during the elections. In fact the Indian players and other Indians who will be out of India during this period will not be able to vote for India while they are away. I take this as a contempt of the Indian Constitution and I believe that the IPL cheif, BCCI and the player and team owners who are supporting this move should be taken to task. In fact the home ministry should not have stopped at just not providing security to the IPL, but should have taken into control the activities of the BCCI and should ban all activities that are forcibly being made to happen during the elections and hence prevents citizens from exercising their right to vote.
I am disappointed the IPL is going to be played out of India, but I am even more infuriated and filled with hate at these power hungry, money hungry and unethical sportpersons and sports organizations who are making such a mockery out of the Indian Constitution and India as a whole. Couldnt they just postpone the IPL for a few months? Instead they chose to attack the government, cause distress to the million of Indians who were hoping to see the matches in the stadium, and make a complete mockery out of India. I despise BCCI and these cricketers.
