Startup times better, but not enough

Boot times on Fedora 10 does seem to have improved after the updates and the new Kernel, but still it doesnt quite cut it for me. It really needs to be much much faster than 10 odd minutes.

I will set up OpenSuSE for download today and hopefully it will be done in 1-2 days time. Maybe then I will take a call on whether to move to that or not

Thing is, I already have a copy of OpenSuSE 11. I dunno whether it makes sense to download 11.1, or just do a mad update of 11. The moment I download one, I am sure a new version will popup and make me feel that I did something too hasty.

    Yo Parku,

Came across your new blog through your FB update. Anyways, 10 minutes for booting doesn’t sound right. I run Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex) on a laptop with less than a GB RAM. My kernel version is 2.6.27-11-generic. My boot times are a couple of minutes tops, maybe even lesser, unless I run a file system check on startup (fsck). Maybe this is being triggered on startup everytime for you, though it sounds highly unlikely. You should try booting in the recovery mode to see what exactly is happening.

Hopefully your Linux experience will get better.

    Cheers!

hey soaps, nice to see you here :)

yup, I agree that 10 mins is insane and thats what is driving me mad. I remember that booting was much much faster on fedora10 and opensuse, though I cant quite place a time on it.

Which is what is driving me mad as there is no way for me to figure out what process is delaying the startup so much.
