If there is one thing that I appreciate about linux, it is that it keeps you totally occupied. Come to think of it, I have spent more time administering linux, and just getting it to work correctly and how I want it, than using it productively, or even timepass-ively. More interesting… is that I have spent more time non-administratively on linux, than I have collectively spent administering anything on any version of windows that I have ever run. Considering that I have hardly spent any time non-administratively on linux, it is testament to the user friendliness of Windows.
And if there is one thing that linux just cannot do(at least the mainstream versions of linux), it is that it cannot replace windows no matter what. OS-X might be a threat to windows, but not linux… no way… not by a long shot.
So since morning, I have tried to restore the windows MBR from suse, and suse just put back another older version of grub. Then I tried to overwrite the installation with ubuntu and it sort of did a mix and match of itself and the existing installation and now finally I can boot into a linux, but I can’t do anything else once I am there. What is worse is that now the default OS is ubuntu and so I have untill tomorrow evening to get this rectified so that my dad can use the comp normally on monday morning. Nuts….
