Attempting to get back to Linux

Its been over an year since I last posted on this blog. The reason is simple, I have had nothing to do with linux over the past year. This was not because I didn’t want to, but because I couldn’t.

My PC started acting crazy all of a sudden and the dual-boot set up failed. Since Windows was my primary OS and my family uses that, my preference was to set the system back to Windows. I had to format the linux partition and recover the windows boot loader.

Reasons for choosing a job in your Career

The below view point is from the perspective of career progression. It is especially for those who are ambitious and want to make it big in life.

Often I’ve had or heard discussions on why someone chooses a particular job, or if someone is looking for a switch then what kind of a job is he looking for or what shortcoming is he finding in the current job. As I heard various discussions about it I came up with my own thoughts/advice on what criteria should go into choosing choosing a job when one might want to make a switch.

The Economics of Things

It all started when I was thinking about the cost of the iPhone 3G. Whenever we discuss about electronics, the first thought that comes to mind is that it is cheaper in the USA. So, we try to get someone from the US to buy the product when they come to India. Of course, we need to avoid customs while doing this, so that we retain the advantage of the lower cost without additional customs duties.

A Career in Project Management

I have decided on a career path for myself. I have long since been dreaming of being a developer and I have always love developing and writing code. But then there are times when I also have to think into the future. A career as just a developer is not really a viable option. Sometimes you have to go out and break away from your comfort zone. The world does not need developers. There are thousands and ten thousands of developers just waiting in the market for their chance and it is near impossible to be different in the developer crowd.

Jesus :: Saves == Firefox :: ??

Whether Firefox saves or does something more than that, I wouldn’t know, but it is definitely a blessing. I was browsing some sites and the power went off. I hibernated the comp and let the sessions running and the windows open. After about an hour my dad was putting on the comp and the moment [...]

My Life, My Journeys

I’ve been wanting to start a travelogue since quite some time. I wanted to put it up on my LJ since long, but never really got the mood to do it.

Recently I read a travelogue of my SIL(sis-in-law) and was pretty impressed with the pages of logs that she had typed out. Even my wifey has up-to-date travelogues of her Germany and China trips. Being inspired by these two, I think I should actually records my travel experiences before I forget any interesting detail.

Learning C#

 Decided that I would get back to learning and programming apart from what I do at office. At office I work on ABAP and this being a proprietary language I only learn what I work on and what I need to know to make my modules work. There is nothing really great or "out of the box" in what I am doing. So I have to make the time to learn something different and even practise what I learn to keep in touch.

This is…

Fatty(as V calls it) after a much needed shower. :D
