A small small world

I read this post by beast_666 and was reminded of a couple of surprising experiences of it being a small small world out there.

Incident #1

Cut to Scene 1: The day I got married – 16th June 2006. A distant relative of mine (in terms of distance it is -> my Mother’s Father’s Sister’s In-Law’s Something’s Son) had his wedding on the same day as mine. So the common relatives had come over to attend my wedding, stayed on for a short time and then dashed off to attend his wedding. Incidentally, I couldn’t attend this guys wedding coz I too was getting wedded the same day. Duh!!!
Cut to Scene 2: My Wife is in Germany for a month long Business Trip. There she meets a girl and cooks with her and spends time with her. She also attends a training in Bangalore where this same girl is also present.
Cut to Scene 3: Its my cousin’s wedding (Mother’s Father’s Sister’s Husband’s Sister’s Daughter) and me and wifey go there. Then one relative comes over to introduce the couple that got married on the same day as me. Guess what, the cousin’s wife was the very same girl that Vidhya spent her time with in Scene 2. Was a great surprise and an interesting reunion of sorts.

Incident #2

Its my Relatives wedding and me and wifey are there attending that. I see this friend of mine there whom I know from college. I ask him about his relation to the couple. Turns out that the girl is his far away relative. As it turns out, the guy is my far away relative. And as it finally turns out this guy and I now get related. Welcome to the family rattle_snake :)

The following two incidents are not ‘related’ but interesting nevertheless.

Incident #3

A couple gets married 2 days before me. The guy in that couple is my cousin (Mother’s Mother’s Brother’s Daughter’s Son). Incidentally we went the same places(Munnar, Thekkady, Allepey) for our honeymoon, which was obviously during the same time (as we got married almost at the same time). Then we were not in touch except for the wishes during our first anniversaries. The cousin quit his earlier job and took up a new job in the meantime. Recently the 4 of us met at my cousin’s place. Now, my and my wifey work in the same company and hence we work in the same campus/location. Now this cousin who took up his new job also work in the same area – just a few roads away from our campus. More interestingly, his wife is working in a company which is in the very same campus as my wife. So the 4 of us, got married at almost the same time, went to the same places for honeymoon(tho we never met each other there :) ) and now we are all working very close to each other.

Incident #4

Backgrounder: I am born in Kolkata and brought up in Bangalore. My parents have studied and spent half of their lives in Kolkata.
Background: I take up birding as a hobby. I get married and I get my wife to accompany me during my trips. I meet this lady over email/LJ and we decide to catch up during a sunday birding day @ Lalbagh. Me and wifey meet up with her and her hubby. We talk and meet each other a couple of times during which we get to know each other better(or so we think). Now, I get to know that she also speaks Bengali when I overheard her talking to someone in Lalbagh. She talks about her roots/origins in Kolkata. A tamilian from Kolkata? That’s a rarity. So I talk to my mom about it. The name of this lady rings a bell. Turns out, the families know each other. The lady is surprised, and so is my mom. They have known each other 25 years back and maybe earlier also and know suddenly are in contact through the next generation – me. :)
Of course, they have never met each other in the past 1 year and I think this new year, I have to get them both to meet each other somehow. What do you think deponti? :D

    3. My mom in law made friends with a new lady at her office. They became really close friends in about 6 months. Then my mom in law happens to mention that she is from Kolkatta. this lady says she has also worked there. Then they happen to realize that this lady is my mom in law’s sister’s best friend.
